Purpose of the Job

The quantity surveyor prepares budgets and detailed cost plans relating to building projects. From the initial calculations to the final figures, the quantity surveyor seeks to minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality.

Principle Accountabilities

- Prepares budgets and detailed cost plans on a wide variety of new building projects and structures throughout Africa.

- Need good technical writing skills in order to prepare proposals for tenders

- Prepares and analyses costings for tenders;

- Undertakes costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work;

- Prepares tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities;

- Advices on procurement strategy;

- Performs risk and value management and cost control;

- Identifies, analyzes and develops responses to commercial risks;

- Establishes operating cost and financial control systems;

- Analyzes outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;

- Values completed work and arranging payments;

- Develops knowledge relevant to contract conditions and their applications
