Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plays a vital role in the efficiency, development and progress of manufacturing/processing industries

2. Work with other professionals, such as operations manager and plant managers, to improve production facilities

3. Reduce the incidence of costly breakdowns and develop strategies to improve overall reliability and safety of plant, personnel and production processes

4. Plan the routine maintenance of equipment and machinery

5. Work on-site or remotely diagnosing faults and overseeing time critical repairs

6. Complex plants by implementing work maintenance plant schedule and plans

7. Oversee the work of teams of maintenance personnel, such as fitters and technicians

8. Involved in all stages of operations and production manufacturing

9. Work to incorporate efficient methods of maintaining new equipment or plant

10. Involved in the installation and commissioning process through the production phase to improve the useful life of equipment and machinery

11. Typical work activities include:

a. designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods;

b. planning and scheduling plans and unplanned work;

c. diagnosing breakdown problems;

d. carrying out quality inspections on jobs;

e. directing, instructing and supervising maintenance technicians and fitters;

f. liaising with client departments and customers;

g. arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fitting or components;

h. controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment;

i. monitoring and controlling maintenance costs;

Job Description:

1. Provide guidance to the maintenance team members on fixing problems

2. Advise and approve on items to be replaced or repaired

3. Monitor performance of the maintenance staff and interfere when necessary

4. Handle contacts with overseas suppliers of materials and spare parts when needed

5. Ensure that all maintenance sites are properly equipped with all needed tools

6. Provide recommendation to site managers on optimum utilization of equipment and/or machinery

7. Get technically involved in analyzing offers and qualifying suppliers for provision of equipment

8. Ensure full compliance with proper safety standards and procedures

9. Ensure that all team members use proper PPE items and operate in very safe condition

10. Train the staff on safety related matters and submit related reports

11. Analyze and investigate into safety violations/incidents, report those incidents and recommend actions

12. Assume full responsibility for all mechanical and electrical maintenance activities

13. Liaise with finance department to raise purchase requests

14. Recommend keeping minimum stock levels especially for fast moving items (e.g. filters, brakes, bolts, etc.)

15. Train technicians and mechanics on doing service and repair tasks in the workshop

16. Participate in testing and selecting technicians for the workshop

17. Plan for future manpower requirements in the workshop and raise staffing requisitions accordingly

18. Maintain minimum stock levels for critical items

19. Manage the store keeper activities 20. Qualify spare parts suppliers as per the established standards
