Head of Corporate Services - British Embassy


The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, managing and providing strategic direction to the Corporate Services Team in the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi. This is a challenging role that requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, tact, discretion and an ability to deliver consistently across a broad range of responsibilities. Roles and responsibilities:General:• Ensure corporate and regulatory compliance with Foreign Office legislation covering Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, Internal Audit, Finance, Procurement, Anti-Fraud and Sustainability policies.• Organise monthly One HMG Management Meetings, providing for the engagement of all customers on the Embassy platform with key corporate issues.• Lead the Corporate Services team and its customers through periods of change, including the regionalisation of Corporate Services provision within the Middle East and North Africa region.• Work closely with Corporate Services team in Dubai, to ensure consistent approach to policies, procedures and expenditure.Finance -• Management, tracking and profiling of overall UAE Budget (Approx. £10million), with lead responsibility for Abu Dhabi. Close liaison required with Head of Corporate Servies Dubai required over their devolved budget in particular.• Manage all financial processes remaining in Abu Dhabi in line with audit requirements, including carrying out monthly checks and reporting to the Finance Hub in Manila and Her Majesty’s Ambassador as required.Human Resources - • Oversight of HR support for a staff of approximately 200, including close liaison with an HR Hub on the implementation of HR policies and procedures, supporting appropriate performance management, assisting on interview panels and chairing disciplinary panels as required.• Provide pastoral support as necessary.• Management of the Government Relations Team.• First liaison point for staff associations.Estates and Procurement - • Supervision of the management of the Abu Dhabi Embassy’s Estate in consultation with stakeholders, including ensuring all accommodation and property (office and residential) are dealt with in line with Estate Policy (with support of Post Housing committee as appropriate) and that occupants are aware of their responsibilities. • Oversight of all Abu Dhabi-only purchasing/contracts delivery, ensuring actions are carried out according to the FCO Procurement guidelines. Ensure close co-operation with Dubai on UAE wide contracts and to ensure UAE-wide consistent application of policy and procedures. Other duties - • Owner of the Business Continuity Planning programme, and Bronze Manager in the Crisis Response and Disaster Team.• Deputy Post Security Officer - Key role in supporting the maintenance of security at Post.• Internal Communications - Oversight of weekly Newsletter and regular other communications to all staff on corporate issues• Management of IT team
