Reporting to Chief of the Department/Deputy, Chief of Internal Medicine. Responsible for Residents and Specialist

You will provide specialised services to patients for the diagnosis and management of disease of the digestive tract.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs the professional duties of a gastroenterologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the Chief of Internal Medicine Services and approved by the MOH.

• Evaluates patients with G.I. disease.

• Provides care to his patients in the intensive care unit and medical wards.

• Performs G.I. procedures -upper and lower G.I. endoscopies, liver biopsies.

• Provides consultation services to the in patient services in his area of expertise.

• Shares in the on call duties of the internal medicine service. The gastroenterologist is an internist as well as a gastroenterologist and is expected to perform all the duties performed by an internist (refer to duties of internist).

• Provides after working hours on call emergency coverage for G.I. emergencies.

• Provides supervision and education to the endoscopy staff, nurses and technicians.

• Participates in the monthly staff meeting of the Internal Medicine Service.

• Participates and contributes to all the Performance Improvement Activities of the service.

• Performs additional duties as assigned by the chief of service (e.g. committee membership).

• Supervises the work of ward physicians, professional development physicians and internists, and provides his evaluation of their work at the request of the chief of service.

• Performs duties in general internal medicine clinics, wards as assigned by the chief of the chief of service and as workload dictates.
